Zhoug

Believe it or not, Zhoug is popularly served in the summer. The spiciness of this hot sauce helps your body cool off.

Ingredients for Zhoug

  • 4 hot red chili peppers
  • 4 hot green chili peppers
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 bunch cilantro
  • ½ bunch parsley
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon sweet paprika
  • 1 tablespoon ground cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baharat (Middle Eastern spice blend)
  • Salt
  • A small amount of olive oil

Instructions

  • 1. Using a meat grinder or food processor, ground the chili peppers, garlic, cilantro and parsley into a paste.

  • 2. Transfer to a bowl and mix with the dry seasonings and a little olive oil. Place in a jar and store in the refrigerator for up to two months.
