Season 1 Episode 2 - Things That Bring You Joy

“So much of what I’m actually preaching is around this concept of hosting Shabbat, of hospitality, and throwing yourself into cooking for others…"

Our guest for Episode 2 of “What’s Your FOODISH?” is chef, cookbook author, advisory Board member and Instagram sensation, Jake Cohen. Jake grew up in an Ashkenazi household in Queens, NY and marvels at the way that his community helped shaped his global food perspective: “you grow up in such a Jewish place, like New York, so it is so instilled in your every day, but at the same time since it’s such a global area, and Queens especially compared to the rest of the city… So with that you grow up with an emphasis on the neighboring communities as well.”

Jake joins us to speak with FOODISH CEO, Merav Oren about what he prioritizes in his choice of home- food, culture, tradition, and both queer and Jewish community- about his gratitude in being born and raised in New York City, and how his obsession with “The Food Network” sparked High School dinner parties, and cemented his love of hospitality and its ability to build deep connections. From his controversial evolving brisket, to the messiness and joy of holiday gatherings, Jake continues to provide a place of celebration and observance for any who might be in want, so Jewish traditions may continue to hold a place of prominence for members of his own generation.
